About POM
General information
This section gives general information about the material, not YJP product specifications.
POM (polyoxymethylene), also called acetal or polyacetal, is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic. There are two main groups: homopolymer and copolymer. POM is known for being stiff, dimensionally stable, low in friction, wear-resistant, and resistant to fuel and oil. Its recycling code is number 7 ("other"), and it is usually marked >POM< on products.
POM is widely used for gears, bushings, rollers, clips, latches, and automotive and household appliance parts. Common uses for recycled POM are non-food engineering injection parts and controlled blends with virgin POM. Buyers usually assess the type (homopolymer or copolymer), MFI, color, contaminants (especially PVC), odor, black specks, and regrind size, so state your requirements when asking for a quote.
POM absorbs little water, but it can decompose and release formaldehyde if it is too hot or stays too long in the barrel. So always follow your supplier's temperature range, keep it away from PVC and halogenated plastics, purge the machine when changing materials, and ensure good ventilation. We suggest a sample or trial first before placing a large order.

Does POM need drying before processing?
POM absorbs little water, but drying is recommended if the material has been stored for a long time or the packaging has been opened. Follow your machine or supplier's drying recommendations.
What should I watch out for when processing recycled POM?
