This section gives general information about the material, not YJP product specifications.
HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) is polystyrene modified with polybutadiene rubber (typically around 5–15%), making it much more impact-resistant than GPPS (general-purpose polystyrene). HIPS is amorphous, rigid, and easy to process; its recycling code is number 6 (PS). Its impact resistance is generally below that of ABS.
HIPS is commonly used for household appliance components and liners, trays, displays and signage, sheet for vacuum forming, and casings and electrical accessories. Buyers of recycled HIPS usually evaluate MFI, density, impact strength, ash content, contaminants, bromine content, color, and odor.
HIPS absorbs little water, but drying is often recommended for a good surface finish. Suitability for a specific application depends on the material specification and your requirements, so please discuss it with our team first.
Material is sorted, then crushed with crushing machines (10 units) into granules, or melted with extruders (2 units) into pellets.
Prices follow market conditions, color, form, and order volume, so we give a quote per request. Send us your requirements for the latest price and order terms.
HIPS contains polybutadiene rubber, so it is more impact-resistant than GPPS, but generally below ABS. The right choice depends on your application, so we recommend testing with a sample.
Granules are flakes produced by a crusher, while pellets (plastic beads) are uniform beads produced by melting and extrusion. For HIPS, HIPS Natural, Kresin, and Black are available as granules, and HIPS PK as pellets.
